Can I organize or find duplicate photos by visual similarity instead of filename or date?

I have a folder with many duplicate or near-duplicate photos. Is there a way to sort or group images based on how similar they look, rather than by filename, date, or other metadata? If this is not something a normal file browser can do, what kind of software should I look for?

Most standard file browsers do not support sorting photos by visual similarity. In practice, this is usually handled by dedicated duplicate-photo or photo-management software.
A better expectation is grouping or finding similar images rather than truly “sorting” them by similarity. There is not a way to sort by picture similarity in most file browsers that I know of; and I have used many. It sounds like you need to look for a program that is designed to find duplicate pictures. There are many out there and what you use depends on your hardware/software setup. I have found that they are not 100% accurate so I usually use more than one program to find duplicates and then I still try and go through and see if I can find any. I use windows and have used auslogics duplicate file finder and anti-twin.
