I found some older lenses from a Chinon CS-4 and want to know if they can be used on a Canon EOS 750D DSLR. If so, what adapter is needed, and what limitations should I expect when using these lenses on the Canon body?

The Chinon CS-4 has an M42 screw mount. M42 lenses can be used on Canon DSLRs with an M42-EF adapter, which cost around $20. (Cheaper from China, but international shipping may be unreliable at this time.)

Aperture and focus would be controlled manually. You may also need to control shutter speed and ISO manually. Live View previews may not reflect captured images.

Some of the lenses you have were made for different mounts, and some M42 lenses need slightly different adapters. Since you don't show the mounts, they may not all work with the same adapter.

Yes—if the lenses are M42 screw-mount lenses, they can be adapted to a Canon EOS 750D with an M42-to-Canon EF adapter.

Before buying, check each lens mount carefully: not every lens associated with a Chinon system is necessarily the same mount, so they may not all use the same adapter.

What to expect when adapted:

  • manual focus only
  • aperture set on the lens
  • no electronic communication with the camera
  • exposure may need to be handled manually, especially shutter speed and ISO
  • metering/live view behavior may be less reliable than with native Canon EF/EF-S lenses

So yes, they can be usable, but with significant compromises compared with modern Canon lenses. They’re best if you’re happy shooting manually and experimenting with vintage glass.
