Can an iPad automatically preview new DSLR photos over the Camera Connection Kit?

I’d like to use an iPad next to a DSLR on a tripod so people can take a photo and then view it immediately on the iPad, similar to a simple photo booth setup. I’m not trying to import files manually; I want the iPad to act as a live image browser or automatic preview screen for newly captured photos.

Is there an iOS app that can automatically show images as they are taken from a DSLR connected to the iPad, especially via Apple’s Camera Connection Kit?

One year old article says

Tethering to the iPad is a hot topic. Currently, you can’t tether directly to the iPad with a cable, not even with Apple’s iPad Camera Connection Kit. You can, however, tether wirelessly..

Based on the answers provided, not via the Apple Camera Connection Kit. At least for the setups discussed, direct wired tethering from a DSLR to an iPad through the Camera Connection Kit does not support automatic image previewing as shots are taken.

A possible workaround is wireless tethering, if your camera supports it. One example mentioned is Canon EOS Remote, which can let you view captured images on an iPad, but it does not automatically pop each new image up full-screen after every shot—you still need to tap the thumbnail or enter image review. The answer also notes this was limited to a compatible camera model at the time.

So the practical answer is: automatic wired preview on iPad via the Camera Connection Kit is generally not supported; wireless camera apps may offer partial browsing/review functionality depending on the camera.
