Can a Nikon Df send live view or captured photos to an iPad for tethered shooting?

I want to use a Nikon Df with an iPad so I can either see each photo as it’s taken or, ideally, view a live feed before shooting. Wireless would be fine if it’s reliable, but the Nikon WU-1a has been too slow and buggy for me. Is there a practical wired or wireless tethering solution for the Df with iOS?

What you're asking about is called tethering, whether it's wired or wireless.

I own and use a CamRanger to wirelessly control, view, and preview images from my Nikon DSLR on my iOS and Mac devices.

Alternately, TetherTools has a bunch of resources for controlling particular cameras wired and/or wirelessly, using a bunch of different host computer software, and mobile devices: Tethertools.com resources for Nikon Df.

Yes — the feature you’re looking for is generally called tethering. For a Nikon Df and iPad, community feedback points to CamRanger as a working solution for wireless control, image viewing, and preview on iOS devices. Tethering resources from TetherTools may also help you check compatibility for wired or wireless workflows with specific software and devices. Based on the reported results here, generic cable tethering directly to iOS was not successful, and the Case Air was not compatible with the Nikon Df. If you want iPad-based control or image review with this camera, a dedicated tethering device such as CamRanger appears to be the practical option discussed.
