Can a Krasnogorsk-3 Meteor 17-69mm f/1.9 lens be adapted to a Sony NEX E-mount camera?

I’d like to use the lens from my Krasnogorsk-3 16mm movie camera on a Sony NEX body (such as the NEX-3 or NEX-5, or another Sony E-mount camera). The lens is the Meteor 5-1 17-69mm f/1.9 zoom. Can this lens be adapted to Sony E-mount, and are there any limitations I should expect because it was designed for 16mm film rather than a larger sensor?

Krasnogorsk-3 has a Pentax M42x1 mount, though may be some models with Krasnogorsk bayonet mount.

The lens mounted is the Meteor 5-1. f1.9 /17-69mm Meteor 5-1. f1.9 /17-69mm

You can mount the M42 lens in mirrorless cameras, with the appropriate adapter. This lens was designed for 16mm film, so there are considerations using it on bigger frames.

Seems not suitable for SLR as the back element protrudes. Meteor-5-1 info @ allphotolenses.com

Yes—if your Krasnogorsk-3 uses the Pentax M42x1 mount, the Meteor 5-1 can be adapted to Sony E-mount with an M42-to-E adapter. Some Krasnogorsk versions may use a different bayonet mount, so confirm the mount on your specific camera/lens first.

Because Sony NEX cameras are mirrorless, adapting older lenses is generally straightforward. The main caveat is coverage: the Meteor 5-1 was designed for 16mm cine film, so on a larger APS-C NEX sensor you may see strong vignetting or incomplete image coverage, especially at some focal lengths. Results can vary depending on the exact lens and zoom setting.

Also note that this lens is not well suited to SLR use because the rear element can protrude, but that is less of an issue on mirrorless bodies like Sony E-mount.

In short: it can work on Sony NEX if it’s the M42 version, but expect possible image-circle limitations because it’s a 16mm cine lens.
