Can a DSLR be used with a Minolta Auto Bellows I?

I’m new to bellows and Minolta gear. I have a Minolta Auto Bellows I and want to know whether it can be used with a DSLR body, and if so, which mounts will work. The bellows appears to use the Minolta SR/MD mount, and there is a mechanical bar under the mount that made me wonder whether the camera body needs a matching mechanical linkage for the bellows to function. Can this bellows be adapted to DSLRs or mirrorless cameras, and is there anything special to look for in an adapter?

The Minolta Auto Bellows I has a Minolta SR mount. This mount is often referred to by its last revision, MD. The bellows can be used with any camera that has an MD adapter. These include Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K, Sony A, and nearly all mirrorless mounts. (Search your favorite shopping sites for adapters.)
If your adapter has glass elements, remove them. Normally, they are used to compensate for incompatible FFD, but it is not necessary when using bellows.

Yes. The Minolta Auto Bellows I uses the Minolta SR mount, commonly referred to as MD, and it can be used on camera bodies that have an appropriate MD adapter.
According to the community answer, adapters are available for Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K, Sony A, and nearly all mirrorless mounts. For bellows use, the key point is the mount adaptation rather than a special mechanical linkage in the DSLR body.
If you use an adapter that includes optical glass, remove the glass element. Those elements are normally added to compensate for flange-distance issues when adapting lenses for infinity focus, but with bellows you do not need infinity focus, so the glass is unnecessary and can reduce image quality.
So the practical answer is: yes, many DSLRs and most mirrorless cameras can work with the Minolta Auto Bellows I, as long as you use the correct Minolta SR/MD-to-camera-mount adapter.
