I have a Canon EOS 600D and want to know whether it can record the date and time on a photo as a visible stamp, and whether the captured image can show the date/time during playback. If this is possible, what settings should be enabled?

The camera will automatically record this information in the JPEG file, but not as a picture of numbers superimposed on the image. Some cameras have a feature to do this, but I don't think yours does. That's not necessarily bad, because doing it that way means you have part of the image covered by numbers and you can't get a clean image if you change your mind.

Instead, I suggest using the embedded, "hidden" metadata to add the timestamp using your computer after importing the photos. We have information on how to do this at How to overlay date and time onto the corner of photos?

The EOS 600D records the capture date and time automatically in the photo’s EXIF metadata, so you do not need to enable a special setting beyond making sure the camera’s date/time are set correctly.

However, the 600D does not appear to offer an in-camera feature to permanently stamp the date/time onto the image itself as visible numbers. If you want a visible timestamp on the photo, you would typically add it later on a computer using software that can read the EXIF data and overlay it.

For playback on the camera, press the Info button while reviewing an image. Pressing it multiple times cycles through display modes, including one that shows image details such as image size, ISO, and the date/time the image was taken.
