I’m looking for a camera bag for a Nikon D3100-sized DSLR kit that can also carry a 7-inch tablet or possibly a 9-inch netbook for photo backup, light editing, and Wi‑Fi uploads while traveling. I’d prefer a bag with a dedicated tablet/laptop compartment that doesn’t get in the way of quick camera access. Messenger bags or backpacks are both fine. Are there bag models or styles that work well for this setup?

Loewepro makes a messenger bag that might work for you: Loewepro Compuday150 I own it and like it a lot.
There is also a similar backpack version.

Yes—this is a common need, and several bag lines are designed for a DSLR plus a small tablet or laptop.
From the suggestions given:
- Lowepro CompuDay/CompuDaypack models are made for camera gear plus a computer/tablet.
- Think Tank Retrospective bags can fit an iPad-sized tablet in pockets that don’t block camera access; smaller sizes may suit a compact DSLR kit and 7-inch tablet.
- Kata 3N1 bags were recommended if you want a backpack with easier side access to the camera; some sizes include laptop/tablet storage.
The key is to look for:
- a separate padded tablet/laptop sleeve
- side or top camera access so the device compartment doesn’t block the camera
- a size matched to your actual kit, since larger bags get cumbersome quickly
If fast access matters most, a messenger or sling-style bag may be better than a traditional daypack. If comfort matters most for longer carry, a backpack with side access is a good compromise.
A practical workflow alternative is still to carry a small tablet/netbook if you want backup, editing, and uploads—more flexible than simple Wi‑Fi SD card transfer alone.
