Broken leg-lock lever on a new Manfrotto Befree Advanced tripod: warranty or replacement options?

I bought a Manfrotto Befree Advanced tripod (lever-lock version), and after opening and closing it only a few times, one of the leg-lock levers broke. I found a replacement part on Manfrotto’s parts site, but the part plus VAT and shipping makes it feel expensive for such a new tripod.
Should this kind of failure be covered under warranty on a brand-new tripod? If not, are there any practical replacement or DIY options that would still let the tripod fold normally? Also, is it realistic to replace the plastic lever with a metal version?

Send it back. EU law says you're completely protected.
It didn't need to even break if you bought it online, you can send it back for any reason inside 14 days. You pay postage, though, if you just "don't want it"
As it's broken, they pay postage. You can have either money back or free replacement.
Look up your own country's equivalent of "online selling regulations" or "distance selling regulations".
I am not a lawyer, but I've thrown this set of rules in many suppliers' faces. They don't have a leg to stand on… in your case, quite literally ;)

Yes—on a brand-new tripod, this should generally be handled as a warranty/retailer issue rather than something you pay to fix yourself. A leg-lock lever breaking after only a few uses suggests either a defective plastic part or incorrect tension on the lock mechanism.
Best first step: contact the retailer or Manfrotto and ask for a warranty replacement part or exchange. If you bought it online in the EU, you may also have strong consumer protections, including return rights and remedies for faulty goods.
Aftermarket options weren’t identified in the answers. A DIY replacement is possible in principle: a 3D-printed lever could work, but the cam area would likely need to be made larger/stronger to spread the load. That said, on a new product, DIY repair is usually a last resort after warranty support.
As for making the part in metal: it may be possible as a custom fabrication, but there’s no indication of an off-the-shelf metal version. A metal part could also change how forces are transferred to the rest of the lock, so it’s not automatically a better fix.
In short: don’t buy a replacement yet—start with the seller/warranty claim.
