Black fuzzy spot appearing in every photo on a Nikon D40

I’m using a Nikon D40 with the original 18–55mm kit lens. Recently a black fuzzy spot has started appearing in every photo. It shows up in different scenes, so it isn’t part of the subject. Cleaning the front of the lens didn’t help, and I don’t see any obvious scratch or debris. The spot seems more visible when zoomed in and lighter when zoomed out. What is the most likely cause, and how can I confirm it?

That looks like dust on the sensor. I'm guessing that it becomes more visible as you zoom in because the stock lens has a narrower aperture at higher focal lengths, and narrow aperture makes dust more apparent.

The blue tint is something else and probably deserves its own question, especially if you can post an example.

The most likely cause is dust on the camera sensor, not on the front of the lens. Sensor dust often appears as a soft dark spot in the same area of images, and it becomes more noticeable at smaller apertures. Since many kit lenses use a smaller maximum aperture when zoomed in, that can make the spot stand out more.

To confirm it, stop the lens down as much as possible and photograph an evenly lit white sheet of paper or a plain bright surface. Dust spots should become easy to see.

If that test shows the spot clearly, the sensor likely needs cleaning. The blue tint issue sounds unrelated and would be better handled as a separate question with an example image.
