I'm considering a Toshiba SDHC card for my Canon DSLR because it's cheaper than the more commonly recommended SanDisk cards. I haven't found many reviews of Toshiba memory cards. Is Toshiba a reliable brand for DSLR use, and is it a good choice if I plan to record HD video regularly?

Toshiba is a reputable company that does put out quality products. At one time they have even had claims to fame for the fastest SD cards(source). If you are looking for the cheapest of the cheap, I do not know why you are necessarily asking this question. They are not a popular brand of memory cards, so you will not find many reviews(if any). If you are concerned with speed and reliability, and not price, I would recommend Sandisk, Transcend, Kingston, or Lexar.

Yes—Toshiba is a reputable manufacturer and has produced quality SD cards, including some known for strong speed performance. The main issue is that Toshiba memory cards are less common in the camera market, so you may not find many user reviews compared with brands like SanDisk or Lexar.

For DSLR use, especially HD video, the key factors are card speed and reliability rather than just price. If the Toshiba card meets your camera’s required speed class, it should be a reasonable option. However, if you want a safer, more established choice with broader user feedback, brands commonly recommended for cameras include SanDisk, Transcend, Kingston, and Lexar.

So: Toshiba is not inherently a bad choice, but if reliability and proven performance matter more than saving a little money, a more widely used brand may be the better pick.
