Are third-party RC2/200PL quick-release plates compatible with Manfrotto RC2 clamps?

Some quick-release plates from other brands look very similar to the Manfrotto RC2/200PL system. Are these actually interchangeable with genuine RC2/200PL clamps, including the secondary locking pin, or do they only resemble the design without being reliably compatible?

Only genuine Manfrotto RC2/200PL Quick Release plates and clamps will be fully compatible. The 3rd party tolerances are not close enough and there will be issues. Some will be close, but it has been my experience that the fit will be sloppy or possibly not fit at all.

In practice, only genuine Manfrotto RC2/200PL plates and clamps should be assumed to be fully compatible with each other. Third-party versions may look similar, but tolerances often differ enough that the fit can be loose, inconsistent, or may not work at all. That also means you should not count on full compatibility with the safety/secondary locking features unless both parts are genuine RC2/200PL components. If reliable fit and security matter, stick with genuine Manfrotto RC2/200PL plates and clamps rather than assuming lookalike parts are interchangeable.
