I have a Canon T2i and several spare batteries, and I may borrow a Canon T1i. Can the T2i batteries be used in the T1i, or do these two cameras require different battery packs?

The Canon T2i actually uses a newer battery pack - the LP-E8 as opposed to the T1i that used the LP-E5. The LP-E8 has better battery performance, but unfortunately you cannot use them interchangeably.
This is from the PCWorld Review:
Canon upgraded the battery pack to the LP-E8 instead of the LP-E5 that powers the T1i. The good news is that battery performance is better. The bad news is you can't use any spare LP-E5 batteries you may have.

No. The Canon T2i (EOS 550D) and T1i (EOS 500D) use different battery types, so the batteries are not interchangeable. The T2i uses the LP-E8 battery, while the T1i uses the LP-E5. That means your T2i spare batteries will not fit or power the T1i. If you plan to use the T1i, you’ll need an LP-E5 battery or the correct AC power accessory made for that camera.
