The Pentax P3 35mm SLR Camera is a simple point-and-shoot camera made for candid and casual photography. It can be used with Pentax KA mount lenses. The camera has a TTL center-weighted exposure metering with GPD cell. The programmed AE mode optimizes the aperture and shutter to suit the given scene. This camera has a Seiko MFC E7 vertical focal plane shutter that functions at a maximum speed of 1/1000th of a second. Relevant camera information such as exposure, flash, shutter speed, and over-and under-exposure warnings are displayed in the viewfinder. Other notable features in the camera include a self-timer and a hot shoe for attaching an external flash.
The Pentax P3 35mm comes with a program AE mode that automatically adjusts the shutter and aperture settings to suit the lighting condition in the scene at hand. Alternatively, you may manually adjust the exposure metering by using the meter indications in the viewfinder. The program AE mode also balances the aperture and shutter when you use the automatic flash. Moreover, the exposure memory lock allows you to store the current exposure setting and use it more than once in different lighting conditions. This film camera has a maximum ISO of 1600, while its shutter speed can be increased to 1/1000th of a second.
A silver-coated pentaprism viewfinder with a split image microprism matte focusing screen is incorporated into this Pentax film camera. It provides a field of view of 92% and magnification of 0.82×. The viewfinder also displays the current program AE and manual mode, flash status, shutter speed, and high or low exposure warnings.
The Pentax P3 SLR can be used with 35mm films. When you load a DX-coded film, it automatically sets to the appropriate speed range of 25 to 1600. The film is advanced by the single-stroke rapid wind lever that has a 130° clearance and 35° stand-off angles.
The Pentax P3 35mm SLR Camera has a hot shoe that offers X-synchronization for electronic flash devices. It synchronizes the flash with the shutter at 1/100th of a second. You may also use the B terminal for shooting in long exposures. With the self-timer, the camera's shutter release can be delayed by up to 12 seconds. A blinking LED indicates when the shutter is about to be released. The camera runs on two 1.5V silver-oxide or alkaline mini batteries. If the loaded batteries run low on power, the LED blinks. Once the battery power is completely exhausted, the LED goes blank.
