The Canon M5 Mirrorless Camera is designed by keeping both video shooting and image capture in mind. This camera fits Canon EF-M lenses on its mount. The Canon EOS M5 utilizes the 24.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 7 image processor to render true-to-life imagery. You can record Full HD 1080p videos at 60 fps by turning the mode dial to the movie option. The camera can take continuous shots at a rate of 9 fps. To benefit focusing on both video recording and image capture, the camera employs the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system with touch AF functionality via the rear LCD. The Digital IS with 5-axis image stabilization reduces the appearance of camera shakes. You can either use the 3.2-inch 1.62m-dot touchscreen LCD or 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder to frame the scene. Both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity options allow you to transfer images or operate the camera wirelessly.

Optics and Focus

The camera is compatible with Canon EF-M lenses. You can set the exposure mode to the aperture priority, shutter priority, program, or manual. The camera features the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system that has phase-detection elements scattered over a large area of the imaging screen to ensure accurate autofocus. With the Movie Servo AF mode, you get consistency when shifting from one focus point to another. Also, the camera lets you adjust the tracking, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. With the Touch AF system, you can tap on a specific spot on the LCD to bring it into focus. The Drag AF system allows your track the focus manually by dragging the focus pointer with your fingertip.

Sensor and Screen

The Canon EOS M5 captures the color information accurately to produce vivid images and videos with minimal noise. With the 1.62m-dot touchscreen LCD, you can compose the shot or watch captured media. Also, the LCD tilts 85° up and 180° down to make it easy for working from a high or low angle. The 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder provides a clean eye-level view of the scene even in bright daylight.

Image and Video

Capture 24.2 stills in either JPEG format for quick transferring or in RAW for adjusting their final look in a multimedia editing software. The camera records 1080p videos in the movie mode at a maximum frame rate of 60 fps. Thanks to the DIGIC 7 image processor, the camera performance during video and 9 fps continuous shooting is improved. Also, the camera starts up quickly so that you can take pictures immediately without any delay. The Digital IS uses the 5-axis sensor-shift method to compensate for the camera shakes.

Other Features

Switch on the built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to send captured images to smartphones as well as control the camera remotely. You can use the pop-up flash or attach an external strobe to the hot shoe contact for night-time or low light image capture. The front dial, quick control dial, exposure compensation dial, and dial function button can be customized to create your personalized control layout. You can save user-specific exposure profiles in the C1 and C2 mode dial positions. The camera functions on a 1040 mAh LP-E17 rechargeable Li-ion battery pack.
