Featuring the world’s first full-frame, 42.4 MP Exmor R CMOS sensor, the Sony Alpha a7RII Mirrorless Digital Camera - Body Only takes mirrorless imaging cameras to unprecedented levels. The new sensor design improves low-light images and provides quicker processing to produce high-resolution photos and UHD 4K videos. The BIONZ X image processor allows the camera to deliver images at sensitivities up to ISO 102,400 and a continuous shooting rate of 5 fps. The camera also features Sony’s SteadyShot image stabilization that works on five axes to compensate for vertical, horizontal, pitch, yaw, and roll movements.
Optics and Focus
The a7RII camera features a robust design with an updated magnesium alloy body with enhanced weather sealing. The body features a sturdy lens mount that allows you to work with even large lenses. The shutter of the camera sports an updated design that reduces vibrations by approximately 50%. The camera has a faster autofocus system with at least 40% increase in speed over its predecessors. The AF system has a massive upgrade of 399 phase-detect points and 25 contrast-detect points for accurate tracking. The phase detection points of the camera can also work with A-mount lenses with the use of the LA-EA1 and LA-EA3 adapters. The image stabilization system of the camera compensates for five types of camera shakes encountered while handheld operation. It compensates for horizontal, vertical, roll, pitch, and yaw movements. With the a7RII, you can confidently use any lens and not worry about motion blurs. The image stabilization system also works well with third party lenses and adapters.
Sensor and Screen
The camera features the world’s first back-illuminated, full-frame sensor. The Exmor R CMOS sensor and the BIONZ X image processor ensure high-resolution stills and videos while eliminating noise and improving speed. The sensor features an anti-reflection coating and low-pass optical filters to improve light collection, which results in enhanced details. The 3-inch LCD screen features a 1,288.8k-dot resolution that provides an excellent display for composing images, adjusting settings, and reviewing photos and videos. The screen can be tilted upward to 107 degrees and downward till 41 degrees so you can work with multiple shooting angles. The 0.5-inch 2.36M-dot XGA OLED Tru-Finder uses a 4-lens optical system with a double-sided aspherical lens element to accurately display what will be the final result of your recording. With 100% frame coverage and 0.78x magnification, the viewfinder enables comfortable and stable composition at the eye level.
Image and Video
The camera is capable of taking photographs up to a maximum resolution of 7952 x 5304 pixels. It also offers Ultra HD 4K video recording at a frame rate of 24 or 30 frames per second. The sensor of the camera utilizes oversampling to provide a full pixel readout to ensure minimal pixel binning. It reduces moire and aliasing that is common with high-resolution sensors.
Other Features
The a7RII camera features a 3.5mm microphone input jack to connect external microphones. It even has built-in WiFi connectivity to instantly share images with mobile devices or social media platforms. The camera also features NFC connectivity to allow one-touch connection between compatible devices. Once connected, the mobile device can display the live view image on its screen, and you can remotely adjust settings on the camera.
