The Sony Alpha a7R IV Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera takes mirrorless imaging to a new level, by being the world's first 61.0 (effective) Megapixel, full-frame mirrorless camera, which features smooth & natural gradiations, blazing speeds, outstanding color reproduction, & offers approximately 1.5x more resolution than its previous model (Sony Alpha a7R III). The a7R IV is designed to capture reality that you can almost feel, by providing image quality & expression that were once possible with medium-format cameras, in a lightweight and compact design. The featured functions, connectivity, & reliability of the a7R IV is designed to support professional workflows, both on location, & in the studio.
The Sony Alpha a7R IV is a Sony E-Mount camera, which features 567 phase detection points & covers approximately 99.7%, horizontally, and 74.0% vertically, due to its high-density focal plane, phase-detection AF system. The high-density focal plane phase-detection system is designed to work with 425 contrast AF points, from a fast hybrid AF system, which is able to handle a huge volume of data at a high speed. The fast hybrid AF system is able to rapidly snap into focus, with mostly any subject & situation. Improvements have also been achieved with tracking performance, even with the significant increase in overall resolution.
The a7R IV uses advanced algorithms to assist in a reliable low light performance, with high AF precision down to light light levels as low as EV-3* (in AF-S mode). A "Focus Priority" mode is featured for even more reliable AF in low light, when using smaller apertures. "Real-Time Tracking" is also featured, & is designed to use AI (artifical intelligence) to tenaciously track your moving subjects when shooting stills or movies. Accurate focus is automatically maintained while holding the shutter button down half way. A "Touch Tracking" function allows for a subject to be tracked by simply touching it on the monitor while the function is engaged. Color pattern (brightness), and subject distance (depth) data is gathered by an advanced subject recognition algorithm to process spatial information in real time. AI (artifical intelligence) allows your subject's eye & face to be detected & kept track of, in real time, for extremely high tracking precision.
In addition to the automatic eye selection function during the use of Eye AF, you are able to manually preselect your subject's left or right eye. This feature can greatly assist during portraiture, when the eye of your subject is predetermined, allowing you to focus even more on other details, such as composition and lighting. Another feature of the real-time eye AF is its ability to track animal eyes, which can increase success rates of photographing animals in a variety of settings, as well as pets at home. This feature can be initiated by half-pressing the shutter button, or via an assigned custom button.
Some featured focus controls are the AF-ON button, which activiates AF during shooting, and the Multi-Selector, which provides a quick and efficient way to shift your focus points. The a7R IV's LCD touchscreen allows for the "Touch Focus" function to be used. Focus area mode settings can also be memorized for quick operation.
The Sony a7R IV is designed with a new 61.0 Megapixel Exmor R image sensor, that is 35mm & full-frame (back-illuminated CMOS). The image sensor features approximately 61.0 million effective pixels, which provides the ability to capture reality that you can almost feel, by providing image quality & expression that were once possible with medium-format cameras, in a lightweight & compact design. Its back-illuminated structure & noise reduction techniques assist in achieving a blend of low noise & high sensitivity.
Sony BIONZ X Image Processor features Advanced Detail Reproduction Technology, as well as area-specific Noise Reduction, which works with the image sensor, to provide maximum performance. Combined with the image processor, the a7R IV's sensor offers approx. 1.5x more resolution than its previous model (Sony Alpha a7R III). The 61.0 megapixel sensor allows you to achieve extremely fine, realistic reproduction of details and textures. Skin tones, as well as colors of nature, are rendered with great realism.
The Sony Alpha a7R IV's Ultra-XGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF (Electronic ViewFinder), features 5.76 million dots, for great detail, contrast, & brightness. The Tru-Finder also features a "High Quality" mode, which provides your viewfinder and monitor displays with extra fine detail, for a more natural overall view. A 120-100fps* finder frame-rate setting is designed to provide a smooth image, with minimum display motion-blur when shooting moving subjects.
The Alpha a7R IV features a 5-Axis image stabilization, which is effective for movies, as well as stills. In-body image stabilization allows effective stabilization to be achieved with a wide range of lenses. The 16-Image Pixel Shift Multi-Shooting function takes advantage of the in-body image stabilization system control, by capturing multiple images that are pixel-shifted, to later produce 16-image composites (with approx. 240.8 million pixels) from data that is equivalent to approx. 963.2 million pixels. This feature allows for stunning detail and presence, as well as color, textures, & resolution that are amazingly realistic.
The a7R IV features accurate RGB for full representation of red, green, & blue values simultaneously. When using 4-image composites, or 16-image composites, even more accurate RGB data can be provided for accurate color reproduction.
The a7R IV's buffer memory has been increased by 1.5x, which allows for up to 68 images per continuous photo burst. This allows for extra fine/fine JPEG or compressed RAW images to be captured in a continuous burst. Approximately 3x the number of images can be captured in APS-C mode.
The Alpha a7R IV is able to record in 4K with full pixel readout in the Super 35mm mode (approximately APS-C 16:9) without the need for pixel binning, making you able to condense approx. 2.4x the amount of data required for 4K movies (QFHDL 3840 x 2160), allowing for high-resolution/high-detail 4K. 4K recording employs the XAVC S format at bit rates up to 100 MB/s.
