Megapixels:
A megapixel is one million pixels. It is commonly used to describe the resolution of digital cameras. For example, a 7.2 megapixel camera is capable of capturing roughly 7,200,000 pixels. The higher the megapixel number, the more detail the camera can capture. Therefore, the megapixel count is a significant specification to look for when buying a digital camera.

Overview

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV Digital Camera is an advanced and versatile point-and-shoot camera featuring a spectacular 20.1MP 1-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor. It can produce high-resolution photos and even record videos at Ultra HD 4K resolutions. The sensor features a stacked backside-illuminated design that improves clarity and image quality, especially in low-light conditions. The sensor allows the camera to have a high sensitivity of ISO 12800. The BIONZ X image processor complements the sensor and allows the camera to produce images with excellent tonal gradations.

Optics and Focus

The camera features a built-in Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 35mm lens that provides an equivalent focal range of 24-70mm to cover wide angles and portrait perspectives. With an aperture range of f/1.8-2.8, the camera allows you to click photos even in challenging lighting conditions. It also enables better control over focus placement for shallow depth of field imagery. The lens features nine aspherical elements, which includes two advanced aspherical elements to reduce chromatic aberrations and provide sharp, clear images. It also features an anti-reflective, multi-layered coating that minimizes lens flare and ghosting to provide rich contrast and better color saturation. The Optical SteadyShot image stabilization system of the camera eliminates motion blur that is frequent when operating without a tripod. The image stabilization system allows you to capture photos in difficult lighting situations and long shutter speeds without blurring. A neutral density 0.9 filter provides a reduction of three stops in exposure levels so you can work in bright conditions with wider aperture settings.

Sensor and Screen

The camera has a 20.1MP 1-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor with stacked, backside-illuminated technology that provides better low-light photos. You can utilize a maximum sensitivity of ISO 12800 and still retain vivid clarity with minimal noise. The photodiodes of the sensor are placed between the rear of the lens and BIONZ X processor to enable better light gathering and faster image processing. The image processor complements the sensor and improves quality with better tonal gradation. The camera has a 0.39” 2359k-dot SVGA OLED viewfinder and a 3-inch 1229k-dot Xtra Fine LCD screen. The display features WhiteMagic technology that provides excellent visibility even in bright conditions. The screen can be tilted to provide greater flexibility for high, low, and front-facing angles.

Image and Video

The 20MP RX100 IV camera can capture photos at a maximum resolution of 5472 x 3648 pixels. It can also capture high-resolution images in a burst mode at a rate of 16 frames per second. The camera also records videos in Ultra HD 4K videos up to five minutes with no pixel binning and minimal aliasing. For resolutions below 4K, you can record videos up to 29 minutes in length. While recording videos, it utilizes an XAVC S format to provide a high bit rate of 100 Mbps for professional levels of video quality. It can also capture slow motion video clips at 240, 480, or 960 fps on NTSC and 250, 500, or 1000 fps on PAL.

Other Features

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV Digital Camera feature inbuilt WiFi connectivity to transfer images to mobile devices, social networks, and cloud storage sites. With its NFC-enabled, it allows you to connect with compatible mobile devices and operate the camera remotely. It also includes the PlayMemories app that let you personalize settings depending on a particular shooting style such as portraits, detailed close-ups, sports, time lapse, motion shot, and more.

ISO Speed:
The ISO speed setting dictates sensitivity to light. The higher the ISO speed, the more sensitive the film or digital sensor is to light. Higher ISOs have the effect of noise in an image. The actual ISO at which the noise occurs varies from camera to camera. Low ISOs are generally used for brighter lighting conditions and high ISOs are often used for low light or action shots.
