OVERVIEW
The Sekonic Speedmaster L-858D-U is a groundbreaking light meter built for photographers and filmmakers who demand precise exposure control in any setting. Navigating its features is effortless thanks to a 2.7-inch color touchscreen, while a bright 1-degree spot viewfinder with diopter correction delivers real-time exposure readings directly through the eyepiece. Engineered with a dustproof and splash-resistant body (JIS Class 4), this durable tool is ready for demanding indoor and outdoor shoots.
As the first meter of its kind to measure flash duration and High-Speed Sync (HSS) stroboscopic pulses, it makes freezing fast action and overpowering harsh sunlight straightforward. A built-in Flash Analyzing mode measures ambient and strobe light simultaneously, allowing you to quickly dial in the perfect light balance using the intuitive jog wheel. Integrated wireless modules provide seamless remote triggering and power control across Elinchrom, Phottix, and PocketWizard systems.
Engineered for extreme environments, its upgraded sensor measures ambient light down to a dim 0.1 lux. An expansive sensitivity range supports ISO 3 to 13,107,200—including native ISO 850 for cinema cameras—alongside shutter speeds ranging from 30 minutes up to 1/64,000s for ambient light and 1/16,000s for flash. Filmmakers can take advantage of specialized HD Cine and CINE modes covering frame rates from 1 to 1,000 fps and shutter angles from 1 to 358 degrees.
Rounding out its feature set is an ND Filter Compensation mode that supports up to 12 EV corrections with 30 customizable presets. Desktop software integration for Mac and PC enables firmware updates, custom setting management, and precise dynamic range profiling when paired with bracketed target test shots.
