Overview

The Canon EOS R Mirrorless Digital Camera brings various features in a compact size that benefit both picture and video capture. This camera introduces the Canon RF mount that also fits EF and EF-S-mount lenses using an optional EF-EOS R mount adapter. The 30.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor work as a team to deliver high-quality results along with enhanced low light performance. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF maintains the focus on the subject even in the cluttered scenery. With the camera, you can record videos in 4K at 30 fps and Full HD videos at 60 fps. The integration of Canon Log gamma allows you to attain professional quality results. You can also take continuous shots at 8 fps. Use the built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to send images to smartphones or control the camera wirelessly. The camera comes with an LP-E6N rechargeable lithium-ion battery.

Optics and Focus

The camera embodies the new Canon RF-mount that has a 12-pin electronic contact system to communicate with compatible lenses for autofocus and image stabilization. For Conon EF and EF-S lenses, the mount allows complete electronic communication via an optional EF-EOS R mount adapter. The dual pixel CMOS AF system uses two separate photodiodes to offer 5655 phase-detection AF points to achieve quick autofocusing in low light conditions down to EV -6. With the Movie Servo AF, you can employ focus pull techniques to create a cinematic feel. It also lets you adjust the tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. The Touch AF system also simplifies the process of rack focusing. A 5-way digital image stabilization is incorporated to reduce the effects of camera shakes during handheld shooting. The Digital Lens Optimizer counters different optical aberrations in-camera.

Sensor and Screen

The Canon EOS R camera is equipped with a 30.3 MP full-frame CMOS sensor that handles the imaging work. Its dust reduction system cleans the debris off the sensor surface to maintain image quality. The integrated OLED electronic viewfinder provides crystal clear live view of the scene in 3.69m-dot resolution. With the 3.15-inch swiveling LCD, you can compose the shot from any angle. Moreover, the touchscreen functionality allows browsing through the menus with ease.

Image and Video

The Canon EOS R mirrorless camera offers a maximum resolution of 6720×4480 pixels to the captured images. You may select the JPEG format for instant image sharing, or take advantage of the Dual Pixel RAW mode capture all the information in the scene for altering it in post-processing. The Dual Pixel RAW mode also lets you fine-tune the focus and shift bokeh anywhere you want. In the video mode, the camera records in UHD 4K with 4:2:2 sampling and 8-bit color depth. An external recorder can be attached for ITU-R CT.2020 video output. Apply the Canon Log gamma to your videos to expand their dynamic range by 800%. This 12-stop range can be adjusted during post-production by applying LUTs. The View Assist function shows the color-graded look of the video to make exposure adjustment easy. With the multi-shot noise reduction technology, the camera captures four consecutive exposures and merges them to create a clean photo with smooth tones and less noise.

Other Features

This Canon mirrorless camera enables wireless image transfer and remote control via the integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You may also tag the location information of your smartphone via the downloadable Canon Camera Connect app. The SD card slot supports UHS-II protocol to allow recording 4K videos and continuous shots without any lag. You may attach an external flash on the hot shoe. The lightweight magnesium alloy body is sealed to protect the internal circuitry from dust and water.
