OVERVIEW
The CINE SERVO 40–1200mm T5.0–10.8 is a remarkable achievement in Canon optics, offering a lightweight and compact design (approx. 14.8 lbs. and approx. 17.2 inches in length) while delivering unprecedented focal lengthFootnote1. The built-in 1.5x extender allows the lens to reach an 1800mm equivalent focal length on Super 35mm sensors. Its size makes it ideal for either tripod use or car/aerial mounting, and the increased magnification allows you to capture details more closely. The lens natively covers Super 35mm sensors, with the integrated 1.5x extender further expanding its versatility to support full-frame sensor cameras.
Innovation extends beyond optics. The drive unit has been redesigned with Focus Breathing Compensation and a newly-added USB-C terminal. When paired with USB-PD, it increases the speed of the zoom and focus servo motor. In the demanding world of professional productions such as sports, live events, cinema, and houses of worship, the CINE-SERVO 40–1200mm keeps up and helps to elevate every shot.
Ultra-long Zoom Range 40-1200mm (60-1800mm with Built-in Extender)
With just one lens, you can cover everything from standard to super-telephoto—unlocking dynamic, powerful shots that were previously out of reach. The built-in 1.5x extender expands the focal range to 1800mm equivalent focal length on Super 35mm sensors.
Optimal Portability for a Wide Range of Productions
This lens is 17.2 inches in length, and weighs just 14.8 lbs., which is similar to the CINE-SERVO 50-1000mm lens. The lens also keeps the same front diameter, allowing you to use it in similar situations with the same accessories.
Built-in 1.5x Extender Enables Support for Full-frame Sensor
The lens natively covers Super 35mm sensors. In addition, when the extender is engaged, the image circle is increased, and the lens will cover full-frame 35mm sensors.
8K Camera Support and HDR Compatibility
Canon’s optical technologies provide the optical performance to support 8K resolution throughout the zoom range. Aberrations are controlled as much as possible for outstanding performance from the center of the image to the edges.
Consistent Color Balance
The entire cinema lens series is designed with a consistently warm color balance that reproduces skin tones more beautifully for better depiction of subject textures. Color reproduction remains stable even after changing lenses, reducing color adjustment with each shot and time and effort for postproduction.
In addition to the color consistency of the cinema lens series, the coating design optimally controls ghosting effects.
Beautiful Bokeh with 11-blade Iris
The 11-blade iris diaphragm gives natural bokeh that is nearly circular from fully open to minimum aperture.
The odd number of iris blades produce a soft and diffused glow on high-brightness subjects, with no overlap of diffracted light in the opposite direction, giving a soft and diffused glow.
Newly-developed Drive Unit
The drive unit has been redesigned with Focus Breathing Compensation and a USB-C port. When the USB-C port is powered via USB-C Power Delivery, the zoom servo speed from full wide to full tele improves from approximately 1.5 seconds to around 1 second. In addition, the focus servo speed is improved as well, decreasing from roughly 1.8 seconds to approximately 1.3 seconds.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF II and Dual Pixel Focus Guide
4K shooting calls for precision focus accuracy. This lens is compatible with Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II to ensure razor-sharp focusing in 4K shooting. The lens is also compatible with Dual Pixel Focus Guide, which displays the focus position on the UI to help adjust focusing as needed.
RF-mount Communications
The RF mount supports image correction features such as peripheral light, magnification, chromatic aberration, distortion, and focus breathing. When paired with the EOS C400 cinema camera, it delivers Auto Exposure Ramping Compensation to correct for light loss while zooming at the tele end of the focal range.
