I've lived in New Jersey essentially my whole life and in particular I have worked around the Passaic River for most of that time. Unique Photo was located in Kearny in the 1970's at 160 Passaic Ave, right on the river. Today, the Unique Photo Superstore sits in Fairfield, a short one-half mile East on Route 46 from the Passaic River in Pinebrook. The very same point that has made news over the past few weeks as the heavy rains have resulted in significant flooding in Fairfield and Pinebrook. In fact, parts of Route 46 were closed for three days last week until the flood waters finally receded.
From a business and homeowner point of view, a flooding Passaic River is a disaster. For a photographer, it can be an excellent opportunity to snap some excellent shots. The best photo location on the river is at one of New Jersey's not-so-well-known treasures, The Great Falls, in Paterson. For those that don't know Jersey, you would be surprised at the treasure trove of natural sights here. For the well-informed, New Jersey has much more to see than the Turnpike. And, as you can see in these pictures, there's even a pot of gold.
Unique University will soon be scheduling a photo class excursion to the Great Falls. Check www.unique-university.com shortly for more information. It should be a great afternoon and a great opportunity to take some great pictures at The Great Falls.
