As I continue my confusing quest in finding the world's most bizarre glass, sometimes one post is simply not enough for a ridiculous lens. About a year ago I posted an article on Nikon's 6mm f/2.8 fish eye lens which would become the first of my ridiculous findings. With a crazy picture angle of 220 degrees, it can literally see behind itself. The all seeing eye that makes a 50mm lens suddenly feel very conscious of i's infinitesimal state of being...it's alright little guy.
Last week the moon base lens reared its strange-looking head once again, this time on ebay. While it's not unusual for a lens to be sold on the e-auction site, you don't usually see a rare, made-to-order lens like this end up there. Before you get all click happy on the "buy it now" button, take note of the price -- It's yours for the low, low price of $99,000. Hey, this is a bargain when you consider the last one sold for around $160,000.
If owning a ridiculous lens of this caliber is out of your price-range, you can always MacGyver one up. I think the focal length of this monstrosity adds up to something around 99,000mm...you might lose a couple stops, but it'll definitely get heads turning.
Yo dog, I heard you like teleconverters...
