Can you feel it? That low rumbling in the distance...the woodland creatures stampeding in the same direction with the innate fear and understanding that something wicked this way comes. The catharsis of witnessing something truly incomprehensible emerge from the murky depths of the internet. It's something truly gargantuan and equal parts sickening and mesmerizing. It's a horrible amalgamation of glass and metal.
Enough of the dramatic stuff Nick. This week's ridiculous lens is brought to you in part by the fine folks at Canon. The rightfully named DIGISUPER 100AF sure is super alright. Firstly its in a rectangular casing, so you know it has to be legit...It actually looks like some kind machine from Honey I Shrunk the Kids. Well if you do happen to have microscopic child running around, maybe its 100x zoom could help you out. What that means is a 9.3-930mm lens. Since it was designed for smaller 2/3" sensors, you're getting an equivalent 36mm to a respectable 3656mm. NOT ENOUGH ZOOM YOU SAY?? This bad boy has a 2x tele-extender built right in in. Touchdown. Don't even try to get a blurry shot with this monster, it's got enough image stabilization to calm even the most caffeine-addled hands during a 5.0 earthquake.
Of course 60lbs lenses aren't all that ridiculous. People operate these types of lenses all the time for TV, but wait til you hear about its price tag...How does a cool $200,000 sound? That's a decent sized house right there! Need a lens hood? Too bad bucko, that's probably another 2k. To tip the ridiculous boat over, someone had to be cheeky and paired it with a micro four thirds camera.
Just look at this silly combination. Why did they do it? Because they could. Nothing too micro about this now, huh?
