Nikon has always been very conservative about its camera design. We notice little to no changes in the basic skeleton of the Nikon cameras, although Nikon keeps introducing great cameras every now and then, and the latest offering from Nikon is no exception. The Nikon D5500 is an amazing camera, and is a testimony to the fact that Nikon DSLRs are so venerable among photographers.
Frankly, we were not really expecting a lot of changes in this camera after the Nikon D5300, but surprise, surprise: This is a fairly big step for Nikon in the section of mid-range DX cameras, for it comes with a touchscreen, something we didn’t see in any Nikon DSLR until now.
Nikon has made quite a few important additions to the D5300. First, you will be surprised to find the camera as light as a compact DSLR. Apparently, the weight has been cut down by using a carbon fiber body, a cue taken from the D750. Also, it will be to the liking of both amateurs and professionals alike, given the manual controls. In place of a front dial, Nikon has provided a rear dial that lends great ease in controlling the PASM modes of the camera. That aside, however, the major attraction in the Nikon D5500 is its LCD screen. Styled like a camcorder, it allows for off-angle shooting, an indispensable feature for video making. The touch control, too, makes the video DSLR more persuasive.
In terms of features, the Nikon D5500 is almost identical to its predecessor, the Nikon D5300. But it was the first time that Nikon was experimenting with a touchscreen, and they had to get it right. Well, thankfully, they did get it right, as it were, in the first blush.
One thing that Nikon surely achieves with this camera, is a decisive and successful step towards a mid-range camera to support both photographers and videographers. Until recently, one had to go for hybrid cameras to have the best features of both sides. The novelty of the Nikon D5500 is that these features have been tossed into a single budget camera. There are a few things missing, but that doesn't stop us from claiming that this is one of the best Nikon cameras to have hit the stores in a few years. The Nikon D5300 was great, but this one is slightly better, and is already a contender for the best cameras of 2015.
The camera will be made available at Unique Photo in no time. Do place your orders in advance. Also, feel free to share this blog and spread the word.
