Leave it to Lensbaby to "spark" your curiosity without breaking the bank. Known for their dreamy selective focus lenses, the special effect lens company introduced the Lensbaby Spark: A stripped down composer that allows one to gain the over-the-top bokeh and tilt/shift style imagery you quirky kids seem to be chasing these days.
Being aimed as an introduction (or what I refer to as a gateway) to their growing line of lenses, the Spark has a 50mm focal length with a fixed aperture of f/5.6 and a focusing range from about 13" to infinity. Selective Focus is achieved by squeezing the front element of the accordion/bellows type housing to choose the "sweet spot" of focus. This is as manual as you're going to get and since it doesn't have a CPU, you're probably going to have keep your camera on Shutter Priority and keep making happy accidents.
With a lens like the Spark, you won't get the sharpest images...and that's pretty much the point of the Lensbaby line. Emphasis is on having fun and being creative. If you've been interested in trying out Lensbaby lenses, but aren't curious enough to drop money on a Composer Pro, this seems like a reasonably priced excuse to get acquainted. The Spark will go for $80 and will be available in both Canon and Nikon mounts.
