Is The Canon G Series Dead?

With all the hope of a new 5D camera this fall, the lack of any news or rumblings on a new Canon G series camera sort of flew under the radar.  Almost every single year since the beginning of time Canon has released a new G series camera in the fall.  Last year's G12 was the decade celebration of G series cameras, so it's something we've grown pretty accustomed to. While its entirely possible that Canon could quietly release a G13 this October without any rumor buzz, I would be shocked.  Canon has been bad at keeping their lips sealed on the G series cameras for a decade, so I wouldn't expect this to change.  To be honest the G12 was only a minor improvement over the G11.  It is entirely possible that Canon simply has nowhere to go (right now) with the next model.  They may decide to focus their attention on an entirely new high-end large sensor/small body camera.  There really is no credible information out there to say what direction Canon is going to take, so this is all speculation.  Will it be a fixed lens retro styled camera like the the Fuji X100 or will it be a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera?  Stay tuned for my extended thoughts on this next week.
