Digital backs for film cameras aren't anything new. While the DSLR megapixel race will probably never end, digital backs on medium format cameras continue to provide unmatched resolution; a commodity in the commercial world. This technology hasn't been widely available for smaller formats, but there was that RE-35 April Fools gag that got a lot of people's hopes up. If you were let down by the cruel joke, it looks like ol' Nikon might actually be brewing up a digital back for your old 35mm cameras. Judging from a patent filed last year, this back will allow your film camera to easily swap from analog to digital. Since the film/sensor plane needs to be aligned with precision, screws will allow the user to make fine tune adjustments. Is it me, or is everyone collectively thinking that it's a little late in the game to be trying this out? Then again, I'm sure there's some people who wouldn't mind dusting off their old Nikon F3's for some nostalgia.
