If rumors are to be believed, we will soon have Sony launching a camera accessory that could be connected to wireless devices and controlled by smartphones. The icing on the cake is an E-mount attachment, which is most possibly included in the design, along with a dedicated flash. The E-mount attachment helps in swapping lenses, and that will be a great leap in camera technology.
The details of the product, which is still in the prototype phase, were made public on the Xperia Blog. Promotional pictures seem to suggest capabilities that the new hardware might offer. It wasn’t very hard to deduce, with the image showing a new QX wireless lens with a standard E-mount attachment.
The unit also features a pop-up flash, a welcome improvement over the built-in camera flash on Apple’s iPhone and other handsets. Currently, the Play Memories app for iOS, provided by Sony that controls the existing QX10 and QX100 lenses, does not have any support mechanism for the Camera flash, which is a slight handicap while shooting.

There are suggestions of an Exmor APC-S sensor that the product will realize. That aside, the design doesn’t seem to have changed from the predecessors, keeping a clip-on mount that helps in fastening the setup to smartphones of various sizes.
These unique QX-series camera lenses share a special compatibility with the Apple iPhone. After connecting to the phone, the iPhone will act as a viewfinder for the accessory. Including wireless connectivity, the lens is designed to clip to the back of the phone as well.
It is needless to add, since it has already been noted copiously that the hardware takes much better pictures than the inbuilt iPhone camera. There are still a few improvements to be made in the focus-control features, but they are certainly getting better with every new addition. Also, Sony makes sure that every new device is equipped with more functionality and lesser bugs. iPhone and Sony users must rejoice, as the release might be just around the corner.
Every iPhone user will be looking forward to such an addition. Do share it around with your tech-savvy friends and family members.
