Friday, Friday, Friday...I was going for a monster truck rally intro, but I think it came off more as Rebecca Black. Yikes, anyway its the end of another week and in NJ it's beginning to look a lot like spring time. Everything is skittles and beer, unless you're one who gets sick every time the weather changes or are partial to debilitating allergies; in both cases I feel your pain. Regardless, this pleasant weather means we don't have an excuse to go outside and take pictures. It's only a matter of time before you start seeing the meteorologists on Facebook complain about how hot it is outside. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Side note: As you can see we gave the blog an up-doo. That's the technical term for making it look a little less AOL 3.5 We're still working on it, so don't mind any catastrophic bugs.

This is besides the fact: It's Flickr Friday. What's going on in the pool? Loads of neat stuff. So much stuff that I'm going to pick two this week. How about some abstractions? IMG_2867-2

First we have a nice, dare I say minimal, abstraction from Flickr user Photowocket (Jenn). I find this one effective since it most importantly asks the question: "What the hell am I looking at?" It could be a series of strange nails, a replica of a DNA strand made of metal, or maybe it's just someone's weird modern sculpture...who knows! Opening up the subject matter to viewer interpretation is key. What fun is it to constantly lead the viewer by their hand without having them use their imagination a little bit? Even more interesting is the choice of composition. It's vertical and most of the action is slammed to the left frame, directing your eye upwards. It's sort of disorienting in a vertigo sort of way. The off color and vignette sort of adds a little charm to it as well.

March 24th

Last we have one from Flickr user Onedumbphoto (Anthony). Here's something a little less abstract than the image prior. I can kind of gather what it's of, but what this image does well is point out the subtle things that go unnoticed in the world around you. Often we're hastily rushing around, not paying attention to our surroundings to the point where one forgets to just, excuse me for this, stop and smell the roses. In this case the roses aren't necessarily something normally pretty. It's filth through a window, but thanks to the lighting and strange color gradation there's definitely a "painterly" quality to it. The tiny blobs also remind me of tiny cells viewed through a microscope which was probably unintentional, but I still enjoy it.

Welp, there you have it folks, another Flickr Friday.  Like I said before: Get off the computer, go outside and take lots of pictures! Then you can post them in our Flickr pool :) Hope you have a great weekend and a Happy Easter.
