Studio photography requires intense detail, often resulting in massive file sizes. This is where professionals ditch their DSLR sensor for a larger format. Medium format cameras with digital backs have become a popular alternative in the studio. Sinar has announced a new addition to their digital backs: The SinarBack eXact. This relatively small device features a powerful 48.8 Megapixel Sensor that has the ability to shoot a range of resolutions that vary from its 12MP to an impressive 192MP thanks to it's XL 4-shot mode. There's also a XL 16-shot mode that samples colors from every half-pixel step in all directions, which creates sharper images with more accurate colors. Other features include an ISO range of 50-800, the ability to shoot 13 shots per minute and most importantly a never before seen green LED indicator light ;)
If 1152MB file sizes don't sound like your cup of tea, you can always do something a bit extreme, like mount your DSLR to a view camera...One eccentric fellow did just this. To create the franken-camera he mounting an extension tube on a lens board so that the prism wouldn't get in the way. Although it's still crazy, there's some merit to having the versatility of a powerful camera with the full perspective control of a view camera. This isn't a Sinar sponsored post, but in case you wanted to do this without having to get crafty, they do make a similar camera that will attach to any 35mm SLR. Or better yet you could just use a tilt/shift lens...but why not create something that you can show off on the internet?
