Canon has unveiled a bunch of great new Powershots over the past month or so including the S95, SD4500, and the SX130. Now Canon has introduced the G12 and SX30 IS cameras. The G12 is Canon's flagship compact which features stunning image quality, a hot-shoe for using accessories, and a bevy of control dials for professionals who demand quick setting adjustments. The SX30 is Canon's newest and best "mega" zoom camera. It boasts a 35x optical zoom and 720p HD video recording. Both cameras can be pre-ordered on our store website (click the links of each camera name bellow). Here is the official press release for both cameras from Canon USA. Some pictures, important specs, and my thoughts are after the break.
Sensor: 10.1 Megapixel 1/1.7" CCD Lens: 5x Wide-Angle Zoom (28-140mm equivalent) f/2.8-4.5 Video: 720p HD 24fps video recording LCD: 2.8" 461K resolution, fully articulating/swivel ISO: 80-3200 (Up to 12,800 in certain shooting modes) Processor: DIGIC 4 Stabilization: Same excellent Hybrid IS as the S95 Price: $499.99 Other Features: -New Low Light mode automatically adjusts the ISO speed from ISO 320 to ISO 12800 in relation to ambient brightness, subject movement and camera shake. -RAW mode lets you shoot images without JPEG compression. It gives you clearer images and complete creative control in editing. -Smart Shutter: The camera automatically takes the photo when people smile, wink, or get into frame. -In Camera HDR: Takes three shots, of the same scene, in different exposures in succession and combines all three images together to capture an image with flattering shadows and highlights. Thoughts: For the past 12 years a new G series camera has been released in the fall. It's become a long tradition of excellence for Canon. The G12 looks like another winner, but not too different from the already stellar G11. I like the added control wheel on the front of the camera and expect shooting in manual mode to be even easier. The hybrid IS system and lowlight modes look exceptional as well. The image quality will be identical to the recently released S95. What the G12 offers is a more comfortable (but bigger) grip and more dials for quickly changing settings.
