This photo may look like your typical Olympic swimmer standing by a pool, but would you guess it's faked? Well maybe, since everything is altered for print.
Photographer Greg Heisler was given the challenge to take a portrait of Michael Phelps in his natural environment...without being anywhere near a pool. With the aid of an 8x10, a faux-aquatic backdrop and some Profoto lights he made a pretty convincing poolside portrait. Check out the video above to hear Heisler's thought process and the various tricks he performed to make the portrait convincing.
