Don't worry, you aren't on the wrong blog. Unique Photo is getting a makeover sponsored by Olympus! The facade of our superstore and warehouse is going to become the largest 3D graffiti mural in the United States. On September 13th and 14th, artists Sue Works and MEAR will be transforming the dull side of our building into an incredible piece of art. This is going to be a really exciting event and will be topped off at 5PM on the 14th by a gallery opening (At Unique Photo) featuring the work of Photographer Seth Wolfson. Seth traveled to Israel with graffiti artists and documented their graffiti art that was painted on bomb shelters and other buildings.
I hope to see you there! Here is a video of Sue Works in action and our full press release.
FAIRFIELD, NJ --- Most people would be upset if someone painted their building with graffiti. Matt Sweetwood is throwing a party. Renowned graffiti artists Sue Works of West New York and MEAR of Paterson will be painting the 3-story-tall Unique Photo Superstore building Monday, Sept. 13 through Tuesday, Sept. 14, turning the front of the 3,000 square-foot building facing Route 46 into the largest 3D graffiti mural in the country. The reason for this eye-catching, traffic-stopping display is to recognize the talents of these local graffiti artists and local photographer Seth Wolfson of Bloomfield, NJ, through an Art and Photo gallery display of the work they did recently in war-torn sections of Israel. “This exhibit is about art, photography and charity as we try to support and create awareness for the children of Israel and the real-life conditions in which they are growing up,” said Sweetwood, President of Unique Photo, which was a sponsor of the Paint Israel project with Artists 4 Israel, and which supplied the Fuji Instax instant cameras that captured the images of the trip. “Through this large-scale demonstration of graffiti painting as an art form, we can create awareness for this wonderful cause at a time when the Jewish holidays are being celebrated around the world.” The building will be painted appropriately enough with a variety of camera-related images. Wolfson photographed the group’s efforts that transformed the grim reminders of war into soaring masterpieces of freedom and expression and recognized the vibrant youth culture that exists in Israel. Wolfson traveled to Sderot and Kiryat Gat on the border of the Gaza Strip in April 2010 with 6 American and 12 Israeli graffiti artists who painted bomb shelters, two indoor recreation facilities, a shelter for battered women, an arts high school, and a number of community centers. The display on Tuesday, Sept. 14 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. is designed to create awareness for Artists 4 Israel, a community of individuals who work together in an ongoing, collaborative project to express their support for the children of Israel and to lift people’s spirits. The works will be on display until November 1. Unique Photo®, New Jersey’s only camera and video superstore, offers the latest in photographic products and technology.
