For the first time in a century, a total eclipse of the sun will span the entire US on August 21st, producing one of the most awesome phenomena in nature. In this illustrated talk, astronomer and photographer Dr. William Gutsch will explain what causes an eclipse, where to travel for the best vantage points, and how to safely view and photograph both the partial and total phases of the eclipse!

Unique Photo will be hosting a free meetup in our parking lot to shoot the eclipse on August 21st (1:00pm - 3:00pm)! If you'd like to join us, click here to RSVP!

The solar eclipse will take place on August 21st, 2017 and the Path of Totality will cut across the US from Oregon to South Carolina. While a partial eclipse will be visible from all of the US including New Jersey, you MUST be within the narrow Path of Totality to see the spectacle when the dark disk of the moon completely covers the bright disk of the sun. When this happens, the sun looks like a black hole in the sky surrounded by a ghostly white glow and is framed with red tongues of fire. During this time, the brighter stars also come out in midday.

ABOUT DR. WILLIAM GUTSCH
Now retiring as distinguished Professor of the College of Arts & Sciences at Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, Dr. Gutsch served for many years as Chairman of the American Museum-Hayden Planetarium in New York as well as Science Editor for WABC and Special Science Correspondent for ABC's Good Morning America and World News This Morning where he covered many space missions to the planets. The author of several books and hundreds of syndicated newspaper columns, he has also written, produced and directed scores of science programs for large screen theaters that have been seen by millions around the world. In addition, Dr. Gutsch has done professional photo shoots from the jungles of Mexico to the temples of Bali and has led lecture and photo tours to exotic locations throughout North and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Antarctica.
