A lifelong curiosity for the wild - My love of nature began at my family's little cabin in the Pocono Mountains. There was no television, no telephone and certainly no Wi-Fi. Entertainment was outside—in the woods or on the lake. Every day included a walk, and we were always looking. Deer, beavers, salamanders, snakes—whatever might reveal itself if we paid attention. My father and sister were photographers, and I was given a camera when I was young. It became a way to capture the moments I didn't want to lose. As life became busier, my camera followed along—first with my children, family celebrations and sporting events. Eventually I found myself turning back toward nature. Photographing flowers, birds and wildlife gave my racing mind somewhere else to go. The worries and mental chatter quieted, my senses took over, and curiosity returned. Wildlife photography still feels a little like hide-and-seek to me. If I'm patient and still, something wonderful may peek out and allow me into its world for just a moment. And yes, I'm usually quietly negotiating from behind the camera: Thank you for sharing yourself. You're beautiful. Now, could you please take one tiny step into that lovely patch of sunlight? 😂 Those fleeting encounters are the photographs I treasure most—the ones that capture a tiny moment of awe. When I see them again, time slows. I can return to that feeling of wonder and stillness.
