Will a Canon Pro-10 clog if it sits unused for two weeks?

I’m new to photo printing and have a Canon imagePROGRAF/PIXMA Pro-10. I’ve read that pigment-ink printers can develop clogged print heads if they sit unused. I’m going away for about two weeks and want to avoid problems when I return.

Is two weeks of non-use long enough to worry about clogging on a Pro-10? If so, what’s the best way to minimize the risk during short periods of disuse, as opposed to long-term storage?

I don't know specifically for the Pro-10, but I know that if I leave my Pro-1 on, it automatically moves the ink a bit periodically anyway to avoid clogged heads. I don't print anything on it sometimes for months at a time without any issue.

Two weeks is generally not a major concern for a Canon Pro-10. Based on the shared experience with Canon printers, the safest approach is to leave the printer powered on rather than switching it fully off for that period.

Canon printers commonly perform periodic maintenance/cleaning cycles when left on, which helps keep ink moving and reduces the chance of clogged print heads. Users reported Canon models sitting unused for weeks or even months without issues when left powered up.

So for a short absence:

  • leave the printer plugged in and powered on
  • don’t run unnecessary cleaning cycles before you go
  • when you return, print a small test/nozzle check if you’re concerned

Pigment printers can clog if neglected for long stretches, but two weeks is usually considered short-term, not long-term storage. If your environment is unusually hot or dry, that can increase risk somewhat, but for normal conditions the built-in maintenance behavior should be enough.
