In Shotwell 0.20.2, I set an external editor in Preferences > External Editors (for example, GIMP). When I select multiple photos and go to Photos > Open With External Editor, the option is greyed out. How is this feature supposed to work?

Though the title says Edit photos with an external program the description says:

select a photo

One at a time works but not multiple.

In Shotwell, “Open With External Editor” works on a single selected photo, not multiple photos at once. That’s why the menu item is greyed out when you have several images selected.

To use it:

  1. Set your external editor in Preferences > External Editors.
  2. Select just one photo.
  3. Choose Photos > Open With External Editor.

The wording can be a little confusing, but the key detail is that the command expects a single photo selection.
