Why doesn’t Nikon D3200 Live View reflect my manual exposure settings?

On my Nikon D3200, Live View used to preview the scene close to how the final photo would look in Manual mode. After I reset the shooting menu, changing shutter speed or aperture no longer changes the Live View image, and the display behaves more like Auto ISO or automatic exposure is taking over. How can I get Live View to show an exposure preview that matches my manual settings again?

ok, go into settings and scroll down to movie settings, there scroll down to enable manual movie mode. There, you have done it.

On the D3200, this is usually a mode/settings issue rather than a fault. First, make sure the camera is actually in M (or at least P/S/A), not Auto or Flash Off Auto, because in those auto modes Live View uses automatic scene selection and won’t behave like a true manual exposure preview.

If you’re trying to preview exposure while shooting video in Live View, check Movie Settings and enable Manual Movie Mode. That setting is commonly what makes shutter/aperture changes affect the Live View image as expected.

Also note that Live View on the D3200 is only an approximation: Nikon states exposure in Live View may differ from the final photo, and extreme adjustments may not preview accurately on the screen.

Finally, if you’re just seeing the info screen instead of the camera feed, press the Lv button to return to Live View.
