Why did my disposable camera only produce 14 photos, with black frames and orange light leaks?

I finished a 24-shot disposable camera and had the film developed, but only 14 frames were printed and several are black. Some negatives also show orange marks/light leaks, and one frame on the contact sheet appears half washed out. I used the camera normally and always used the flash. Could this be a camera fault, a lab issue, or user error? Is there any chance the missing/underexposed images can be recovered, and should I ask the store for a refund or replacement?

I'd say the amount of effort involved in trying to prove it was a user, lab or camera fault would simply not be worth the effort. I'd jump the whole issue back to the store you bought the camera from; show them the pics, see if you can get them to give you a new camera, or a refund. [You did keep the receipt, didn't you?] Then you can try over again… & hope...

The most likely cause is a major light leak in the disposable camera, not normal lab processing. The clue is that the orange/bright leak appears in the same place on many frames, including the negatives. If the lab had caused the fogging during development, it usually wouldn’t line up consistently frame to frame.
The black or missing-looking frames were probably badly underexposed, and the lab may have printed/scanned based on the brightest leaked area, making the actual image look very dark or blank. A lab might be able to rescan or reprint some frames to recover a little more detail, but any blown-out leaked area is permanently damaged.
As for a refund: proving exactly whether it was camera, lab, or handling fault is usually difficult and not worth a big fight. The practical step is to go back to the store where you bought the disposable camera, show the negatives/prints, and ask for a replacement or refund if you still have the receipt.
