I bought a Nikon FG with two lenses, and one of them has no obvious brand name on it. I’d like help identifying the manufacturer and model.

What’s printed on the lens:

  • 28-85mm zoom with macro
  • Nikon F mount
  • 62mm filter thread
  • Multi-coated
  • “CCT” and “CPC” on the front
  • “Auto Zoom”
  • Made in Korea

There’s no clear maker’s name on the barrel. Based on these markings, does anyone know who made it?

It's a Cosmicar (Pentax subsidiary) lens, which is a basically Pentax lens without the Super Multi-Coating. While the subsidiary was primarily aimed at the CCT lens market, they did make a few different lenses on the K-mount and also some others such as the Nikon F-Mount and Yashica apparently.

A little, very little, history here:

Based on the markings and the community reply, it is most likely a Cosmicar-branded lens, a Pentax subsidiary line. Cosmicar lenses were related to Pentax products, but typically did not carry Pentax’s Super Multi-Coating branding.

The answer suggests Cosmicar mainly served the CCT lens market, but also produced some interchangeable-mount lenses, including versions in Nikon F mount. “Made in Korea” fits many third-party zooms from that era.

So the safest identification from the available info is: a third-party Cosmicar 28-85mm macro zoom for Nikon F mount, likely from the manual-focus film era. Without clearer photos of the name ring, serial number, or any engraved model code, it’s difficult to pin down an exact production year or full model designation.
