Where can I sell digital photos online with no upfront fees?

I want to sell high-resolution digital photo files online, but I do not want to pay setup or subscription fees in advance. I would prefer a service that only takes a commission when a sale happens. I also do not want strict image filtering or curation, and I am not interested in selling physical prints. What options are available?

If your volume is low enough, you could just handle everything yourself. Post low-resolution images on your website and let users contact you directly specifying which ones they want. You could accept Paypal, which has much lower fees than many photo-selling websites I have seen.

Yes—there are a few possible approaches.

One option is to sell the files yourself: post low-resolution previews on your own website and have buyers contact you to purchase specific images. You can then deliver the high-resolution file directly and use a payment service such as PayPal, which typically means paying fees only when you actually make a sale.

A hosted proofing/sales service may also fit. One answer suggested Instaproofs as a commission-only option with no setup fee, flexible pricing, and the ability to upload your own work without strong curation. Another suggested Lulu.com as a possible platform for selling digital files.

In general, if your main goal is avoiding upfront cost, self-hosting or a commission-only marketplace is the right direction. Just be aware that platforms with no upfront fee often make up for it with higher per-sale commissions, and handling delivery yourself may require more manual work.
