I’m looking for recommendations for panorama stitching software that can combine multiple overlapping photos into a single pano. Free and commercial options are both welcome. I mainly use Windows and Ubuntu/Linux, but suggestions for other platforms may also help others.

Hugin (based on Panorama Tools) is a good open-source option, and is multi-platform.

Good options mentioned by users are:
- Hugin: a popular free, open-source panorama stitcher based on Panorama Tools. It’s cross-platform and a strong choice if you want a capable tool on Windows or Linux.
- Microsoft ICE: reported as easy to use and effective for panorama creation on Windows.
- AutoPano Pro: a commercial option available for Mac, Windows, and Linux. Users report very good automatic stitching and blending, including handling shots taken at different focal lengths or exposures.
In general, modern pano software can often align handheld shots well, especially if your images have enough overlap. A tripod can help, but it isn’t always necessary for casual panoramas. Expect some edge cropping after stitching, since the software may warp frames to align them seamlessly.
If you want a free, multi-platform starting point, Hugin is the most obvious recommendation from the answers provided.
