What cleaning fluid is typically included with DSLR sensor cleaning kits for cleaning the sensor surface (really the protective filter in front of the sensor)?

If you are asking about sensor (really the filter in front of the sensor) cleaning solutions -- such as "Eclipse" ... that's nearly pure methanol. It is used because it evaporates rapidly and leaves no residue.

Many sensor-cleaning fluids sold for DSLRs are essentially very pure methanol. It’s used because it evaporates quickly and is intended to leave little or no residue on the protective filter in front of the sensor. In other words, these kits are usually cleaning the sensor’s cover glass/filter, not the bare sensor itself. Always use a product specifically made for sensor cleaning and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.
