What is the cap-like accessory included with a Godox SL-150W light for?

My Godox SL-150W came with a metal cap/accessory that mounts on the front, but I’m not sure what it’s for. It doesn’t look like the standard reflector shown in product photos, and I don’t see it clearly explained in the manual.

Is this piece meant for shaping the light, or is it just a protective cover for storage/transport? I noticed that if I leave it on while the light is running, the unit gets hot and can overheat.

I think your second guess is right: that it's a cover to protect the COB LED if you ever have to pack up the light and travel with it. It's shaped like that because it's probably the same one they use as a protection cap for the AD600 bulb; the AD600 also has a Bowens S mount, and its bulb physically protrudes.

The hole in the cap is probably to help with the bulb/LED cooling if you had to pack it up while it was still hot.

It’s most likely a protective transport/storage cap rather than a normal light-shaping reflector.

That matches the shape and behavior you described: it mounts to the Bowens front, protects the COB LED area during packing, and the opening may simply allow some ventilation or reflect a shared cap design used on other Godox lights. If the light overheats with it installed, that’s a strong sign it is not intended for normal operation.

One community answer suggested it might act like a snoot, which is a modifier that narrows the beam by blocking spill. But if it causes overheating, you should treat it as a cover, not a shooting accessory.

So in practical terms: use the standard reflector or other Bowens modifiers when the light is on, and use this piece only to protect the front of the light during storage or transport.
