The inside of the Canon EF-EOS R mount adapter has several concentric ridges rather than one smooth cylindrical surface. What is the purpose of these ridges? Are they mainly there to reduce internal reflections and stray light, or do they also help by giving dust more places to settle instead of reaching the sensor? Do other lens mount adapters use similar internal shaping?

Is it to keep dust out of the unprotected sensor by offering dust many alternative places to stick to, in case someone carries the mount adapter in the camera bag without caps on both ends?
Or is it to prevent light from reflecting from the walls of the adapter?
