Simple Windows slideshow software for JPEG folders with fade transitions

I'm looking for very simple slideshow software on Windows that can display JPEGs directly from a folder and use a basic fade/alpha-blend transition between images. I don't want to create a video file first, and I don't need advanced editing features. Windows Photo Viewer would be enough if it supported this kind of transition. IrfanView didn't handle the blending correctly for me, and Lightroom is heavier than I need. What lightweight options are worth trying?

A good fit based on the suggestions is Picasa Photo Viewer (installed with Picasa). It was recommended specifically because it offers a simple slideshow with an alpha-transparency/fade-style transition, which matches your requirement better than basic viewers that just advance from one image to the next.
If you can live without transitions, VueSlide was also suggested as a very lightweight option for showing pictures directly, but it reportedly just flips between images rather than blending them.
So for your stated needs, Picasa/Picasa Photo Viewer is the closest match among the answers provided.
