How should I store the unused Photo Black or Matte Black cartridge for an Epson R2880?

My Epson Stylus Photo R2880 uses either Photo Black for glossy paper or Matte Black for matte paper, but both inks share the same slot so only one cartridge can be installed at a time. If I swap from Photo Black to Matte Black, how should I store the removed cartridge? Can it dry out or leak while it's out of the printer?

I use the same printer and have the same problem. As an Epson fanatic I only use epson original cartridges. The way I store the resting cartridge is to place it in one of the plastic sheaths that come with a new cartridge. The ink seems to last ok without too much drying outand so far there has been no spillage. The only downside is that you have to put the resting cartridge in a safe place. hope this helps

Yes—you can safely store the removed cartridge for later use. A practical approach is to place the unused black cartridge back into the plastic sheath or protective packaging that new cartridges come in, then keep it in a safe place. That helps protect it from drying out and accidental spills.
Based on user experience with the R2880, the cartridge should generally keep fine this way, with no major drying or leakage issues, as long as it’s stored carefully. Using the original protective sleeve is the key idea here.
So in short: remove the cartridge, put it in its plastic sleeve or similar protective holder, and store it securely until you need to swap it back in.
