I have a Canon LP-E6 battery with a cracked outer shell. I’m planning to retire it for safety rather than keep using it. What’s the proper way to dispose of or recycle a damaged camera battery? Should it go to a local battery recycling point, and is there usually any credit or trade-in for it?

Your local authority will have recycle locations; even supermarkets have battery bins in the doorway. You're not going to get any money for it, it's scrap, but it should not go in landfill.

A damaged LP-E6 battery should be recycled, not thrown in household trash or landfill. The practical option is to take it to a local battery recycling point—your local authority may list collection sites, and many supermarkets also have battery recycling bins near the entrance. In general, you should treat it as scrap rather than something worth repairing or trading in, so don’t expect store credit or a buyback for a cracked battery.
