I’m using a Yongnuo YN568EX speedlight on a Canon 7D. The flash projects its AF-assist beam whenever I focus, which is useful in low light, but I’d like to disable it when I don’t need it. Where is this setting on the camera/flash?

Found it!!!! The AF-assist beam firing setting is located in the External flash C.Fn setting under the flash control menu.

On the Canon 7D, this setting is controlled from the camera’s flash menu rather than directly on the YN568EX. Go to the Flash Control menu, then open External Flash C.Fn Settings and disable the AF-assist beam firing option. That will stop the infrared/red focus-assist pattern from lighting when you autofocus.
